Gathering your supplies is the first step to creating your masterpiece! Here’s what you'll need for this DIY upcycled resin project:

  • Recycled Aluminum Cans: Any soda or drink can with a cool design or logo.

  • Epoxy Resin

  • Silicone Molds: Small sphere or cube molds work best.

  • Plain Hair Clip Blanks: The metal base for your hairclip.

  • Craft Scissors or Tin Snips: For cutting the aluminum.

  • Mixing Cups & Sticks: For the resin.

  • Optional: Glitter, holographic confetti, or small decorative elements.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Prep the Cans Carefully cut out the most vibrant and interesting parts of your recycled can. Be creative with your shapes! You can cut out small squares, circles, or abstract pieces that will fit inside your molds.

Step 2: Pour and Embed Place your silicone molds on a flat, level surface. Pour a small amount of resin into each cavity to create a base layer. Using tweezers, carefully place your cut-out can pieces and any glitter or confetti into the resin. Once all your pieces are placed, slowly fill the rest of the molds with resin, making sure to cover everything completely.

Step 3: Cure the Resin Let your resin pieces cure for at least 24 hours in a clean, dust-free area. Once they are hard to the touch and no longer tacky, you can carefully pop them out of the molds. The result should be smooth, shiny, and ready for the next step.

Step 4: Assemble the Hairclips Using a strong, clear-drying adhesive, apply a line of glue to the top of your blank hairclip base. Carefully press your cured resin pieces onto the glue, arranging them in the pattern you desire. Allow the glue to dry completely before handling.

Get Creative!

The best part about this resin craft is that every piece is unique. You can experiment with different can colors, add a variety of glitter mixes, or even try different mold shapes. This is a perfect project for making handmade accessories that are a true reflection of your personal style.
